A man is preparing to run 150 miles across the Sahara desert in six days in memory of his mother.

Ben Harling, 43, has been doing long-distance runs in and around Epping Forest, as well as taking part in other marathons, in preparation for the run next month, which is he is doing to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Mr Harling is doing the run in memory of his mother, Ilkley woman Judith Cresswell, who died in 2012.

Born in Ben Rhydding in 1940, Mrs Cresswell lived in Ilkley until she married, then moving to Huddersfield and later Cumbria. She was an active member of the tennis club.

Although she moved from the town, she maintained her local ties, with many family and friends in the area.
