Idle chippy scoops second award
7:00am Friday 14th March 2014 in News
Top chippy Towngate Fisheries in Idle has got it all wrapped up when it comes to awards.
The chip shop has just added a bronze Good Food Award to put next to the 'Best Chippy in 2014' title it received from the Fish and Chip Quality Award and its top rating for Food Hygiene.
The Good Food Award, which is part of a partnership approach between West Yorkshire Trading Standards and Bradford Council, recognises efforts to reduce saturated fats and sugars in food served, which goes towards reducing the high levels of obesity in Bradford as well as the risk of strokes. It also helps boost heart health in the city.
Bradford MP David Ward, who handed over the Good Food Award yesterday, said: “One in every six meals across the district is bought from a fast food outlet and Towngate Fisheries is a great example of how a business can produce healthier options without compromising on taste.”
Julia Hall, from the Good Food Award Scheme, said: “These simple changes that Mark and his team can offer their customers, in a traditional fish and chip shop, promote healthier options to their customers and demonstrate how very simple changes can really make a difference.
“Bradford is a city where over half of all adults are classed as being overweight or obese and childhood obesity is above the national average. Coronary heart disease is one of the main causes of death in the under 75s. It is great to recognise the achievements made by Towngate Fisheries.”
