School children dressed as aliens, astronauts and literary heroes for World Book Day.
Byron Primary School in Barkerend celebrated the occasion, with each phase group focusing on a different fiction genre.
Years five and six proved the truth was out there by taking on a Science Fiction theme, years three and four dressed as heroes and villains from adventure stories, years one and two transformed to characters from traditional tales and the early years foundation stage children took on stories about animals.
All the children and staff dressed up for the occasion and took part in a wide variety of reading activities throughout the day. In the school hall, there was a read-athon and opportunities for children to listen to and follow audio books with a friend.
Parents were invited into the school library for coffee and a chance to discuss reading strategies that they can use at home with their children.
The day culminated with an assembly, with work shared and prizes awarded.
