Warm tribute has been paid to leading Bradford barrister Graham Hyland QC who died last week aged 59 following a serious illness.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, led a eulogy in memory of the popular and charismatic lawyer in front of a packed courtroom at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

Judge Thomas, a close personal friend of Mr Hyland, praised his “great style and charm at the Bar.”

Mr Hyland, who was born in Halifax, attended the University of Newcastle and was called to the Bar in 1978.

He became a Recorder in 1996 and was made QC two years later.

He was formerly head of the Broadway House Chambers in Bradford.

Barristers, solicitors and court personnel joined members of Mr Hyland’s family and many judges, past and present, to recall his distinguished career.
