High-speed broadband hopes raised for Cononley residents

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: High-speed broadband hopes raised for Cononley residents High-speed broadband hopes raised for Cononley residents

A village is back in the running for high-speed broadband.

Cononley residents had been told by BT that the lack of a suitable site for a necessary second exchange box meant the village would be excluded from the fibre optic roll-out across North Yorkshire.

But now a location has been identified, in Cononley Park, and the community is once again in the mix.

“We’re pleased to be back in the roll-out programme,” said parish council chairman, Lois Brown.

“We have dropped down the queue and been told it may be towards the end of the year when the high-speed broadband arrives, but we’re trying to get it sooner than that.”

South Craven MP Julian Smith recently met with village councillors to discuss the situation.

He told us: “It was great to meet with the fantastic councillors in Cononley to hear about the land they have found in the village to allow BT to bring superfast broadband to the area.

“It is now over to the Superfast North Yorkshire broadband team and BT for action to connect homes and businesses to high-speed internet connections with all the opportunities that brings.”
