Primary school pupils have helped to design hard-hitting posters for a campaign to stop drug dealing on the streets of a Bradford suburb.

Independent crimefighting charity Crimestoppers is spearheading the bid to tackle the problem in Lidget Green, which has included deals taking place in front of children.

Bradford Council has provided £2,200 to fund the campaign, to be launched tomorrow by Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Joanne Dodds, and West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson.

Crimestoppers has teamed up with Bradford Council, local councillors, Lidget Green Community Partnership and Lidget Green Primary School, to encourage the public to report information about those involved in drug dealing. The campaign also aims to serve as a warning to drug dealers in the community that the enforcement agencies are aware of the issues and are working hard to bring those involved to justice.

The community had raised concerns about drug dealing taking place in full view of the public, including children.

Mr Burns-Williamson said: “I am very supportive of the work done by Crimestoppers and the benefits which communities receive from the service, including this new drugs campaign aimed at tackling the issue in Lidget Green. Reporting through Crimestoppers anonymously is an important route for the public in passing on such vital information.”

Crimestoppers’ regional manager for Yorkshire and Humberside, Gemma Wilson, said: “To have the Lidget Green community come together to show their support for this campaign has been refreshing. They want to show that they will not tolerate crime.”

The posters will be distributed around the area this week.

Coun Imran Hussain, Deputy Leader of Bradford Council, said: “This campaign comes in response to requests and concerns from the local community We urge anyone who witnesses drug dealing to report it to Crimestoppers.”
