Avid collector Christopher Fisher counts himself blooming lucky to turn up a rare 50p coin.

He is one of very few people to have the Kew Gardens commemorative piece in their possession.

And charities are set to benefit if he decides to sell the coin.

The penny dropped for Mr Fisher, of Idle, Bradford when he saw reports that the 2009 coin could be a real collector's item. Only 210,000 were released into circulation to mark the 250th anniversary of the Royal Botanic Gardens.

“I have collected coins and other things ever since I was a child,” he said. “I found this in a drawer after reading these 50p pieces might be valuable.

“I don’t know what to do now. I might sell it and give the proceeds to charity. I will see how much I get and then share it out.”

Kew coins have already sold for more than £20 on eBay.
