Trains in and out of Bradford Interchange were temporarily halted for about three hours today due to a telegraph pole which had became unstable in strong winds.

Services resumed at about 7pm after engineers dealt with the pole which a Network Rail spokesman said had been in danger of falling on the station's signal box.

“A telegraph pole become unstable in the wind,” said the spokesman.

The incident was initially reported at about 4pm.

Meanwhile, at least three major Bradford roads were affected by traffic light failure this afternoon.

Signals are temporarily out in Rooley Lane, Ingleby Road and in Hall Ings, at its junction with Bridge Street, in the city centre.

Power problems also mean overhead variable speed limit signs are not working tonight on the M62, which could lead to delays.

The Highways Agency said the issues relates to the smart motorway technology between junction 25 and 30.

The overhead variable speed limits will not be in use and the Agency will be unable to open the hard shoulder to drivers.

These issues mean that delays are expected between junction 25 and 30 both eastbound and westbound during this evening’s rush hour.

A Highways Agency spokesman said: "Engineers are working with electricity suppliers Northern Power Grid to rectify the problem and we hope to have the smart motorway operational again as soon as possible."

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys around the area this evening and allow extra time.
