A student at the University of Bradford fell to his knees and begged forgiveness for “the devil at work inside me” after sexually assaulting a fellow student, a jury heard.

Babtunde Osiefa told police his toe got caught in the young woman’s trousers, pulling them down, prosecutor Sophie Drake said.

Osiefa, 30, a business management student, denies sexually assaulting the woman after pushing her onto his bed when she went round to “talk and chill” last February 26.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told police she met Osiefa in the street near the university about a month before the alleged attack and he asked for her phone number.

She repeatedly told him she did not want a relationship.

When she went round to his flat, she said he dragged her out of a chair, pushed her down on the bed and pulled down her trousers.

“I was shouting and saying ‘Get off me, get off me’,” she said.

She told how she was crying and punching him in the head.

He held her down by the neck and sexually assaulted her, she said.

She said she tried to open the door to get out but it was locked.

The court heard he shook the keys in front of her face.

She said Osiefa, whose home address is Oak Court, Cann Hall Road, East London, then got down on his knees.

“He was crying and he said he was sorry and it was the devil inside him,” she said.

After about 15 minutes, he let her out but he followed her along the road until she threatened to call the police, the jury heard.

Miss Drake said Osiefa was arrested on March 3 and told officers his toe got caught in the woman’s trousers when they fell on the bed. He denied that he sexually assaulted her.

The trial continues.
