A project displaying Hollywood-style signs to welcome the Tour de France is resorting to some Yorkshire humour to draw people’s attention to the sporting event.

‘Eat Pies’ is the instruction now in place in a field above Shaw Lane, Oxenhope, near Keighley, as part of the Project Hollywood scheme.

The message is due to change every two or three weeks until the arrival of the Grand Depart on July 6.

Project leader Russell Brown, also a Worth Valley ward councillor, said: “We’ll be having different humorous salutations every couple of weeks or so.

“We’re having a bit of a laugh, and we’re hoping to get a group of butchers together with a big pie next to the sign to help promote trade.

“It’s generating a lot of interest and it’s gone mad on Twitter with people wanting to know what it’s all about.

“We’ve had nothing but positive feedback.

“It’s about having some fun while raising the profile of the whole area.”
