Students at a Bradford school are preparing to perform a forgotten masterpiece by J.B Priestley - the first performance worldwide in 13 years.

Despite the writer considering it the best theatre piece he had written, Johnson over Jordan was originally a flop when first performed in 1939.

Its reputation as a difficult-to-stage play means it has only been performed a handful of times since, and has not been performed in his home city since 1947.

But Bradford Grammar School have decided to tackle the play, and will stage it at the school’s Hockey Theatre next week.

Running from Wednesday to Friday, the writer’s son Tom and stepson Nicolas Hawkes will be in the audience for the final performance.

The play is being directed by English teacher Lee Hanson, who is also chairman of the J.B. Priestly Society.

The last time it was performed was in 2001 at the West Yorkshire Playhouse at Leeds.

Entry to the play is free.
