A man who racially abused and threatened a neighbour has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Austin Brayford, 36, of Sawrey Place, Little Horton, Bradford, admitted causing racially aggravated fear of violence by words towards Jude Chiemeka, at Sawrey Place, on December 21.

Brayford was sentenced at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court yesterday to 18 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for 12 months, with supervision by probation and a six-month alcohol treatment requirement.

District Judge Susan Bouch said: “I am satisfied the case is so serious the court must pass a term of imprisonment, because of the racial comments made.”

She said she gave Brayford credit for his immediate guilty plea.
