Bradford College has become the UK’s first further education establishment to be recognised as ‘dementia-friendly’ for its approach towards people with the condition.
And the college has plans for its under-construction, state-of-the-art new building to be just as accommodating.
Clear signage and furniture will mean the £50 million David Hockney building, due to open in September, will be easy to navigate for anyone with the condition.
Earlier this week, the college received a Dementia Friendly logo from the Dementia Action Alliance for its efforts to make students more aware of the telltale signs of the condition, and how to help people with it to cope with day to day life.
The aim is to make more facilities accessible to people with the condition, making it less debilitating, and allowing people to continue to live independent lives.
