Youngsters made music, played giant games and learnt life-saving first aid skills at an event organised by youth groups across Bradford on Saturday.

Children flocked to the National Media Museum to find out more about joining or volunteering at a wide range of groups from across the city, including Girl Guiding, Girls’ and Boys’ Brigades, St John Ambulance and the Sea Cadets.

Members of the groups, including young St John Ambulance Badgers and Cadets dressed in their uniforms along with mascot Bertie Badger, greeted visitors by handing out flyers about the event in the museum’s lobby.

Around 10,000 leaflets had been distributed across the district’s schools to attract families to the extravaganza, organised by umbrella group Youth United.

Youth development worker Linda Clark said: “At our weekly meetings, youngsters learn skills that could save a life one day while making friends and having fun.”

Girl Guiding volunteers planned workshops in art and dance which culminated in a spectacular flash mob in the main foyer of the museum.

Over the last 12 months, the organisation has started 11 new Girl Guiding groups in the Bradford area – including Manningham, Marshfields, Bingley, Wrose, Thornton and Little Horton.

Shagufta Sharif, Youth United development worker, said: “Five organisations, Girl Guiding, Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, Sea Cadets and St John Ambulance held workshops to promote and showcase the fantastic work they do in Bradford.
