Two men involved in commercial cannabis-growing were given suspended jail terms at Bradford Crown Court.

Gary Milne, 40, of Airedale Avenue, Cottingley, and David Sumner, 43, of Manor Road, Cottingley, had both pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis, with Milne also admitting a charge of illegal abstraction of electricity.

Prosecutor Duncan Ritchie told the court that on May 16 last year, police visited a rented house on Buck Street, Denholme, to find both men at the property, along with 25 cannabis plants with a street value of £9,685.

After arresting the men, officers then raided Milne’s home in Cottingley to find a 12 plants, producing £4,500 of the drug. The electricity had been illegally bypassed.

Milne was given a six-month sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to perform 200 hours of unpaid community work.

Sumner received a four-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and a 30-day activity requirement.
