Bradford’s City Park will be plunged into darkness tomorrow as stargazers gather for an evening of out-of-this-world entertainment.

A BBC Stargazing Live event, by Bradford company Space Connections, will see astronomical activities on offer in the park between 5pm and 9pm.

The Mirror Pool will be drained and lights switched off to minimise light pollution Keighley Astronomical Society show families how to use a telescope.

The Big Screen will showcase a space-themed film as well as some of the Bradford Robotic Telescope best images, while a mobile planetarium will be set up in City Hall.Space Connections will host activities for children, including rocket-building.

There will be talks in the new City Library by Robert Massey, of the Royal Astronomical Society, and Usama Hasan, a senior researcher in Islamic studies and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.

The library will also stage its own ‘star storytelling event’ for children, while Forster’s Bistro and Deli will offer camp fire food.

Leader of Bradford Council Coun David Green said: “The event is a great way of allowing people who have an interest in astronomy, at all levels, to learn more from the experts and participate in an exploration of the night sky.”
