A charity is urging pet owners in Bradford to check their animals have got everything they need to be healthy and happy.

PDSA want people to take part in its Big Pet Check – a digital tool designed to give owners an insight into the five pet welfare needs.

The charity’s campaign comes on the back of it finding out that the welfare needs of millions of UK pets are being badly neglected.

It said that in Bradford, only 53 per cent of owners are familiar with the laws that govern pet ownership, that 36 per cent of pets in the city aren’t microchipped, and that three-quarters are not insured.

Also, 54 per cent are not getting annual life-saving vaccinations, say the charity.

Nicola Martin, PDSA’s head of pet health and welfare, said: “The PDSA Big Pet Check gives owners an insight into their pets’ five welfare needs. By answering a few simple questions about their pet’s life, owners will get advice on how to improve their pet’s wellbeing. We want to help the public turn their affection for their pets into positive action to help make a better life for Bradford’s pet population.”
