George Galloway has announced he and his wife are expecting their first child.

Mr Galloway, 59, who is already a father of three and grandfather of four, said he was “not at all” fazed by the prospect of becoming a father again.

He said yesterday: “Nothing daunts me, you know that.”

The Respect MP for Bradford West married his fourth wife, 29-year-old Putri Gayatri Pertiwi, in 2012.

The MP for Bradford West has three children from previous marriages. He has a daughter, Lucy, who has four children, and two young sons – Zein, six, and Faris, two.

Mr Galloway said he was very much looking forward to becoming a father again and his wife was coping well with pregnancy.

He said: “She thinks it’s wonderful. She’s been really good, she’s had no sickness. She’s strolling through it!”

As for whether he was hoping for a boy or a girl, Mr Galloway said: “Just as long as it’s healthy, that’s all that matters.”

Mr Galloway took to Twitter to share the news with his 169,000 followers.

He said: “Gayatri and George Galloway are happy to announce they’re expecting their first child, a sibling for Lucy, Zein and Faris, God-willing.”

The couple host a weekly current affairs programme together on Russian television. The show, called Sputnik: Orbiting the World with George Galloway, began in November on English-language channel RT.

Congratulations have been posted on Mr Galloway’s Facebook page.

Sid Mariamah said: “Congratulations brother, may God bless your child with good health, and may your child be a blessing to you both.”

Bobby Faisal said: “Make more children Mr Galloway, this world needs more people like you.”
