Keighley charities are preparing to “winter-proof” pensioners through a new £10,000 scheme.

Volunteers will clear snow from paths and driveways so that older people can get out without the risk of falling and injuring themselves.

The snow wardens will be a new service that will combine with existing services under the banner of the Winter Warm Good Neighbours Project.

Keighley Volunteer Centre and Keighley Community Transport hope the four-pronged project will help older people and people with disabilities maintain their safety and independence during severe weather.

The Volunteer Centre’s long-established Handyman team will carry out essential repairs and adaptations to people’s houses.

Community Transport minibuses will take pensioners to shops and cars will transport them to health appointments.
