Shipley MP Philip Davies has joined Menston residents in objecting to two proposed developments which could result in almost 150 new houses in the village.

Mr Davies has made formal objections to plans by Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire for 134 houses on land at Bingley Road, and Chartford Developments’ plans for 12 family homes on Bingley Road.

He raised concerns about flooding and drainage on both sites, and called on Bradford Council to carefully consider concerns raised by his constituents.

In his objection to the 134-home plan, Mr Davies said: “The concern for many of my constituents is that the proposed site is not suitable for such a huge housing development, as the area is already prone to flooding. Constructing 134 dwellings in a high risk area of flooding would make all these developments at risk, along with the properties downhill from the site. As this site already has known water problems, further development to it should not be considered.”

He said a Victorian drainage system already cannot cope at times – and fears the development would aggravate road congestion in the area.
