People are being urged to sprint towards their new year fitness goals by signing up to the Epilepsy Action 10k road race.

About 1,500 runners will take to the streets of Bradford on Sunday, March 16, in the Yeadon-based charity’s annual event, tackling a course from Centenary Square to Frizinghall and back.

The 2014 race will see a change in the route from previous years, which organisers say will result in a faster, flatter course.

The run, which has become a permanent fixture on Bradford’s events calendar since it began in 2008, has raised more than £210,000 for Epilepsy Action.

Katie Stocks, fundraising events officer at the charity, said: “The Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k run continues to go from strength to strength and we hope to get a record number of runners this year.

“The race provides the perfect target for your new year fitness goals, even if you’ve never taken part in an organised run before or if this is the year you want to beat your personal best.

“An added sense of achievement comes from knowing that every penny raised from the event goes to Epilepsy Action.

“In 2014 the charity will continue to provide its life-changing services, ensuring that no one with epilepsy has to live with the condition alone.”

Entry costs £18 or £16 for runners affiliated to a UK athletics running club.

Prizes are awarded for both males and females placed first, second and third and for the winners of the veterans’ categories.

A free T-shirt will be provided to everyone who completes the race and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

The run is supported by Airedale Athletics, who will provide runners with training tips and training clinics, supervised by qualified coaches.

The closing date for entries is Thursday, March 13.
