‘I’m still at helm’ confirms Bradford Bulls’ Robbie Hunter-Paul

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Chief executive Robbie Hunter-Paul Chief executive Robbie Hunter-Paul

Bradford Bulls’ chief executive Robbie Hunter-Paul has confirmed he remains at the helm of the Super League club after all three of its directors, who were poised to become its new owners, resigned on Christmas Eve.

The Telegraph & Argus reported on Wednesday how the club’s chairman Mark Moore and fellow directors Ian Watt and Andrew Calvert stepped down after a row over the change of ownership from Bradford restaurant boss Omar Khan could not be resolved.

The announcement came after crisis talks between Mr Khan, former club honorary chairman Gerry Sutcliffe MP and the Rugby Football League reached a stand-off.

Mr Khan has refused to transfer his stake in the club, claiming Mr Moore and former director and general manager Ryan Whitcut have not paid him an undisclosed sum for the sale of the business. But Mr Moore, Mr Watt and Mr Calvert – who later joined as investors – said they found “massive holes” in the club’s finances, including £400,000 outstanding to creditors and a £180,000 undisclosed loan.

Mr Khan has said he is still willing to honour their “contract” and will take legal action against Mr Moore and Mr Whitcut, who left the club in November after it emerged he would fail a ‘fit and proper persons’ test by the RFL. The make-up of the club’s hierarchy is now unclear, although it is understood Mr Khan will not be involved in the day-to-day running of the business.

Last night, Mr Hunter-Paul told the T&A he remains chief executive, although he would not answer any further questions about the situation at the club.

The resignation of Mr Moore, Mr Calvert and Mr Watt had not been registered with Companies House yesterday evening and no new director has been appointed.

However, the T&A understands a new director could be announced next week.

Meanwhile, the son of the late Trevor Foster, a central figure in a fight to save the Bulls’ predecessor Bradford Northern, appealed for all parties involved to “act more laterally and to save our great club from the abyss”.

He said: “It is so ironic that 50 years ago, over this very Christmas period my dad, the late Trevor Foster MBE, was pulling out all the stops in his efforts, with others, to resurrect Bradford Northern from the ashes to a famous return to the RL in 1964. He lived by his mantra ‘there is always hope’.”

someone else that needs to go as he has been up to his neck in all the lies and BS that the club and him in particular has fed us over the last few months.

He says he is at the helm but was unwilling to answer any questions about the situation at the Club; complete farce!

A new director to be appointed, well that is OK back in the chair then!

So Robbie is refusing to speak to the local press about the key issues surrounding the latest crisis. Once again us fans are being denied information we should be entitled to.

We weren’t even told which backroom staff have been made redundant. How can this not be in the public interest? Fans have a right to know what team Cummins has at his disposal next season, especially as the club are desperate for the fans to back them through the turnstiles via season-ticket sales.

So much for the transparency that both the Hood and Moore regimes seemed to mistakenly pride themselves on.

Fans just want honesty and information, not cover-ups.

Just a few examples... The four-man board, later to become a triumvirate after the exit of Ryan Whitcut, referred to themselves as co-owners. They never were. They talked of the Bulls’ new corporate ownership structure and how they had come on board as shareholders. They never were. And what takes the biscuit... After the T&A finally cleared up the smokescreens and misinformation coming out of the club which boasted of “continually striving to be open and transparent with our fans” they write in a statement on the website - after attacking the local paper for publishing the truth they had taken so much care to hide - this chestnut: “As was also made clear, Mr Moore and his fellow board members, Andrew Calvert and Ian Watt, do not own all of the shares in 'OK Bulls'.” Do not own all of the shares... they don’t own any of the shares!

One line they talk of transparency, the next they tell another whopper.

So come on Robbie, don’t fall into the same trap. It will come back and bite you on the bum in the end. Be honest, then at least fans know where they stand and, with trust, you will get more and more fans on your side. And, as the saying goes, there is strength in numbers. Perhaps then we might get through this together. We won't if we are split into dissenting groups.

not at all; just someone that has refused to believe the BS that we have been continually fed by the Club and rubber stamped by the likes of you on here and other forums.

If you have not woken up and taken the rose tinted specs off to realised that we as a club are in the worse state ever, then more full you; but then you will be there asking OL for a wave and getting your free curries again.

I liked your life boat metaphor, quite apt for the sinking ship that is the Club, even the rats have left.

Why RHP also attempted to silence the lads by threatening to fine them should they tweet about lack of wages 3 months on the trot. When Bateman broke rank he was chastised by RHP, Bateman's reply was "I want a transfer request" the rest is history!

RHP is so far out of his debt it's laughable, he's continuously misled the fans & tried to conceal the true state of affairs at the club.

And is STILL trying to keep up the pretence in order to sell season tickets

I don't think it's fair to accuse Robbie of hiding anything. He's just saying all he can - 'I'm still doing my job. Whatever else is going on, I've no blooming idea!'

But of course, if he said that, the press and doom-mongers would leap on it like a free meal, so he's just keeping postive, and trying to do his job.

Bear in mind what we have here is a man who was tempted away from a perfectly secure job, in a place where he was looked after and respected, under the pretence that everything at Bradford was on the up. Only to have every single one of his new employers walk out and leave him holding the baby. Now he's in the most stressful position of his life, and probably just trying to grab a few happy hours with his family over Christmas, and he's still taken time out to offer a reassuring comment to the press.

There are a lot of people doing a lot of wrongs around Bradford at the moment, but we have no evidence to say that Robbie is one of them.

Give the guy a break, because he's well within his rights to walk away at any point, most people already would have.

You are correct, he left a secure job because he was told lies by Khan who needed another Fall Guy along with Puppy Whitcut . Not forgetting the big increase in salary I suppose he got, Enough reason not to Walk , will cash in if Pushed, unlike the Players.

What the Bulls fan NEED Robbie is someone with the fans best interest at heart to be honest with them. Not lackeys for failed "businessmen" and chancers. Uncertainty isn't helping anyone. Who is going to put their hand in their pocket to buy a ST with the doubt that it may not be honoured hanging over them? Transparency is needed not another makeshift BOD making promises they can't keep. It's looking increasingly likely that a supporter-run consortium is the only option in the clubs best interests. Good Luck in the New Year!

Robbie if your really still at the helm do everyone in Bradford a favour (including the Bulls fans) and speak to the prospective Speedway and Stock Car promoters. That's the most pressing issue for Bradford sports fans - the future of Odsal Stadium, there cannot be future for the Bulls in the Super League if it is only by the financial grace of the Local Authority and the Rugby Football League (surely that's morally incorrect) for the Bulls to continue supported by the RFL which is what might happen. So make use of your time at the helm (albeit likely short lived) and help Odsal have some sort of future beyond the Bulls. It is well documented that the Speedway and Stock Car people have been trying to make contact over the use of the stadium.

After one set of shyters ruined the club a close eye needed keeping on the new lot. Not simply believe all what was coming out of the club. The T&A as the local paper should have done this but failed the people of Bradford and the Bulls fans for not checking things out and simply believing what they were told.
Way to little to late from the paper who's editorial just a few weeks back was heaping praise on Khan and Sutcliffe.

He isn't the villain but he may be a prophet if you'd open your mind to the fact this is a corrupt enterprise and business.

It is not a 'we hate Leeds' situation, more a we need truth one.
So, let’s examine what you are claiming here.
“Listened but not understood”... to what exactly? Being a Northern / Bulls supporter for 5 decades or so are you suggesting that once the Club went into Administration I should have called time on my support for the Club until the ‘prophets’ conducted THEIR due diligence.... ignoring the Sport’s Governing Body et al?
An individual puts in the required monies, jumps through the numerous hoops imposed by the RFL, gets the green light and I’m expected to turn my back on the Club? Is that what you are suggesting?
.
“He has been unveiling conmen and shysters”... who exactly? Name names if you are so sure. Are you saying that the last three directors fall into this category and the fans should have jumped ship?
.
“He isn't the villain but he may be a prophet” ...In Christianity terms, it’s been over a couple of thousand years since we had such a person walk amongst us! Who’s ‘lauding’ who here?
.
“open your mind to the fact this is a corrupt enterprise and business”.... Rugby League in general? Super League or just Bradford Bulls? Blimey... I’m out of here... thanks guys!

Blimey... I refuse to put any more pennies into the kitty whilst Ok is the major shareholder. In my view, he saw the Bulls as a venture in which to turn a quick profit, which has gone disastrously wrong..

This profit hasnt transpired and the shares are now worthless (cos nobody wants to buy them). He secured some good sponsorship and kept the ship alive, but he miscalculated the time in which to get a return on his investment.

Now, he wants to try to offload his shares at an unrealistic price in an attempt to get his investment back. But the recently departed board are not prepared to pay his asking price (quite rightly in my opinion-- you wouldnt pay 200,000 for a 50,000 house).

In my view, OK will now put the club into administration, as he simply has not got the cash to support such a venture, or he is not prepared to. Basically, he wants his cake (controlling interest) and to eat it (offload them).

What the club needs is a sponsor with more cash than sense, who is prepared to cover the loss over a five year period. The "five year plan" is a well known business approach, whereby you only start turning a profit after that time, and makes for a stable, growable business venture.

Some of the great lies rolled out since Khan & Sutcliffe took over,

We will spend £6m upgrading Odsal, remember that.
I'm here for the long haul at the end of season shin dig (quits a week later).
I've put £900k from my property portfolio into the club (following months wages are paid late).
Told there were no other bids when Khan and Sutcliffe used political power to obtain council money, and undercut all the other bids by waiving central funding to get the club only to scream it unfair after using it to beat other bids.
We also had the embarrassing situation of an elected MP begging a curry house for money in the local paper.

also like the fact just over a year ago openly slagging off the RFL in the press. Suspect that might have been brought up during the current 'negotiations'

Also based on what he recently departed Directors said, it cost the club £100k to have happy birthday sung to him at pop concert

The T&A are allowing these forums to become a farce.

Sad how all the fans are turning on each other.

Just got out on day release to be able to pose the question.

If OK had £900000 to inject in August why did he wait nearly 12 months and allow winding up procedures from HMRC (May) to commence and pay players late and £400000 of other creditors not to be paid.
We will see when the inevitable happens.

And if he had this wealth why did Bradford Council not charge against it when they lent him £200000 when he bought the assets.
He bought essentially the CORAL stand.Bar rights now sold.

He bought it ALL for £250000.
All creditors from the previous Failure got nothing.

Why should he as a creditor and owner not now suffer he same fate failure.
He knew the risk.
Anyone who goes into business knows the risk
And as he knowledgable Adey on RLFans RAB reminds us of Chris Caisley"s press release at the height of the Bulls success in 2004.

"WE CANNOT KEEP MAKING LOSSES YEAR AFTER YEAR "
Which they had been.
And have continued to for 10 more years.
Madness

That was when crowds reached 25000 for a Leeds game.

It is not in the real world I am afraid.
Caisley pointed out NO SUGAR DADDY then in 2004
No SUGAR DADDY came forward last year
There is NO SUGAR DADDY this year
So how s OK"s investment worth ore than he paid.
He paid £250000.And was given by us the taxpayer £200000.

The operating rights to the Bar of that Asset (THe Coral Stand)are now with third parties.
So why should OK be classed as anything different to the £2 million creditors who lost out a year ago?He should not.
But seems to want to claw back everything.

Better get back to the padded cell.
Struggling to cope with the delusionists

WE will see the source of an money in August in due course.
How strange OK was very poorly less than a month later.

But had left with everything to be OK now.
Some have alluded to the source of that money.

I hope it is not correct.

Just give it up mate. For the record you are spot on as I was put in the same troll boat as yourself for stating "rumours" (which knew were true) on here by certain posters.

On the other hand though as a Bulls supporter myself I admire certain posters (fans) for supporting the team no matter what hole its in. If they want to support through financial means thats their business really no one elses.

Those with a more logical view know the writings on the wall for the Bulls in the New year but you have to admire the dedication of some fans who choose to ignore facts etc.

Now instead of arguing energy would be better spent raising enough to start again.
Portsmouth fans in a working class town raised £4 million. There were 11 wealthy who put in 1.7 m.
And 2400 other fans who pledged £1000 each.
They are no running at a surplus and crowds of 15000.
In the bottom league being in the premier league 3 years ago.

Guifoyle laughed at that idea and thought they were mad.
It IS working.

Some things never change though

Why RHP also attempted to silence the lads by threatening to fine them should they tweet about lack of wages 3 months on the trot. When Bateman broke rank he was chastised by RHP, Bateman's reply was "I want a transfer request" the rest is history! RHP is so far out of his debt it's laughable, he's continuously misled the fans & tried to conceal the true state of affairs at the club. And is STILL trying to keep up the pretence in order to sell season tickets
Are fans still buying season tickets for the Bulls up and coming season ?.

It's not looking good for the Bullys and how they looked down at City in their hour of need.

I hope they pull through and go back to the "Northern" name as this Bulls frenzy has brought a different class of fan, more like gloaters but the boot is on the other foot now.

I still want to know as a council tax payer who is responsible from the council for the £200k loan and if it was guaranteed.

No doubt they'll be trying to cover the tracks of who sanctioned it as we speak. But someone must have signed it off and some of us won't stop asking.
