More than 200 crimes were recorded in Keighley between the start of November and the first nine days of December, according to an update presented to councillors.

Acting sergeant Adam Beecroft delivered the figures during the latest meeting of Keighley Town Council’s watch and transport committee.

He said the 218 offences were recorded in Keighley’s Central, East and West wards. He said that during this period there had been an increase in the number of burglaries.

He said theft from motor vehicles continues to be a problem, mainly at night and from insecure vehicles.

He added ‘making off without payment’ from petrol stations was another area of concern, and that a crime reduction officer was working with all petrol stations in the area to address it.
