A driver from Haworth who was stopped by police on the A629 at Kildwick had been unaware that his motor insurance had expired just hours before, Skipton magistrates heard.

Daniel Granger, 25, was told by the police officer to produce his insurance documents later because he had insisted he was covered and the officer was unable to check because the Motor Insurance Bureau had not opened for the day.

But Granger discovered his insurance had run out just six hours previously.

Granger, who admitted using a vehicle without insurance on October 22, told the court it had been a genuine mistake.

Magistrates told Granger, of Hebden Road, Haworth, they had no option but to endorse his licence with six penalty points.

He was fined £100, and him to pay a £20 victims surcharge, but with no costs.
