Children get together to share love of writing

Westville House School in Ilkley invited five other schools to join it in celebrating talented young writers.

Thirty pupils from Ben Rhydding Primary, Addingham Primary, Ashlands School, All Saints School, and Burley Oaks Primary School along with Westville House, spent a day of creative writing with children’s author Ciaran Murtagh.

One of the UK’s leading writers, he is best known for The Dino and Genie series of books written for children.

He is also well known for his television work and involvement with CBBC.

Held in the Westville Hall, the day featured exciting ways to develop characters and build entertaining and unusual stories.

All the children who attended had an highly amusing and interesting day Staff from the schools who accompanied the children were equally enthusiastic.

Addingham Primary School’s Joelle Mitchell said: “We really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to the prospect of another.

"We are grateful to Westville House School for inviting us to this writing workshop.”

Westville House headteacher, Rosey James, added, “It was lovely to welcome a group of enthusiastic writers to Westville House.

"This is the first of many exciting activities that we hope to share with our neighbouring schools.”
