A film-maker from Bradford has won an award for his short film about the inspiration his screen hero, James Bond, has had on his life.

Thomas Kitcheman, who has learning disabilities, won the best film award 2013 in the uSparks Shorts competition.

His three-minute video showcases his extensive collection of Bond memorabilia which includes books, mugs and postcards plus DVDs, CDs, signed photographs and cars.

Thomas, from Bradford, said: “I’d like to be James Bond, even if it is just for a day.”

Thomas, 24, who is supported by national learning disabilities charity Hft, beat more than 100 entries from budding film-makers submitted over the past year to win the online competition aimed at finding original films made by young people which will inspire others.

Thomas’ mother Joanne, said: “Thomas has always been a shy character and creating this film has really brought him out of himself. It has improved his confidence and helped him to become more articulate.”

Thomas was supported to put his film ideas together by Hft’s digital photography group, Viz-Able. The group, which formed in 2010, is run as part of Hft’s day services in Bradford and is a collaborative project between Hft and professional photographer Tony O’Connell.
