Pupils at Thornton Grammar School helped bring some festive cheer to residents of local care homes.

Organised by sixth form students and staff, the annual Christmas Crackeateria sees the school invite elderly residents of Thornton and Clayton for a home-cooked Christmas dinner along with a tombola, bingo and carol singing from the school choir.

Residents of Headrow Court and Thornfield Hall in Thornton as well as some of the school’s elderly neighbours were invited to join in the fun.

Almost all the food required for the meal and many of the raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and parents from Clayton and Thornton, and they will be receiving a letter of thanks on behalf of the school.

All the money raised will be donated to the chosen charities – Cancer Research UK and the Curry Project.
