A key figure in two lifesaving groups has been presented with a Civic Pride award for 2013.

Co-ordinator of Heartstart Addingham and one a team of 12 community responders, Alan Davies, was presented with his award by Keighley and Ilkley MP Kris Hopkins.

Addingham Civic Society said Mr Davies’ name was put forward some months ago, and it did not take long for the Society’s committee to agree with this proposal.

Mr Davies, who also donated a kidney to a stranger earlier this year and is an Airedale Hospital governor, has helped raise the funds for four defibrillators in the village. A fifth is expected to be added soon.

Civic Society chairman, Jim Robinson, said: “Our award reflects individuals and organisations contribution to the local community.

“No one can doubt Alan fully deserves it and the wording of our award is very appropriate - in recognition of Alan's outstanding contribution to the health and well being of the residents of Addingham, a credit to the village.”

Mr Hopkins said he was very impressed by Mr Davies’ commitment and achievements, and he could not think of a more worthy recipient.

The MP has said he wants to take part in a Heartstart training programme in the New Year.
