The announcement of fire service strikes on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve has been met with “regret” by West Yorkshire Fire Service.
It has also called the timing of the industrial action “risky” as families and friends will be getting together to celebrate.
The strike – announced by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) as the row with the Government over pensions escalates – will see member firefighters walk out on Christmas Eve between 7pm and midnight; from 6.30pm on New Year’s Eve until 12.30am on January 1; and from 6.30am until 8.30am on January 3.
Assistant Chief Officer Dave Walton said the dates were greeted with ‘regret’ and said they were traditionally ‘risky’ times of year.
He said people should take extra care.
