Budding film-makers are being given chance to showcase their work on Bradford’s Big Screen.

Each month, from January, there will be chance to enter a two-minute film for a competition organised by Big Screen Bradford and the winning entry will be shown on the screen, in City Park, for one month with information about the film-maker.

Twelve finalists from the year will be judged by a panel of senior media executives and the winner will receive a £1,000 prize with the further opportunity to profile their work on the screen.

David Wilson, director of Bradford City of Film, said: “We want to see films that stop people in the street and make them watch – they can be humorous, quirky, moving or emotional. We would like to see work from people of all walks of life and from all over the world.

“This really is a fantastic opportunity for people who are passionate about film to get their work known. We also plan to share the films with a network of screens across the UK so the winners will get some really great national profile.”

Bradford UNESCO City of Film and Bradford Council, with support from the Digital Working Academy at the University of Bradford, have teamed up to provide a new programme of events and content for the Big Screen.

Mr Wilson said the priority is to continue to make the screen “a place for innovative and creative local content; a voice and a focus for local communities and organisations to share stories and information”.

Set against a backdrop of Bradford’s Mirror Pool, the Big Screen is aimed at bringing cutting-edge film and creativity to the heart of the city centre. With up to 300,000 people passing the screen each month, the film competition offers a high profile opportunity for film-makers to showcase their work.

Films offered for consideration may be on any subject but must not be more than two minutes long. The content must be suitable to be viewed by people of all ages.

Entries should include the name and a photograph of the film-maker, with a short explanation about why their film and why it should be shown.

Entries can be e-mailed to submit@bigscreenbradford.com marked Filmmaker of the Month.
