Nomination are being sought to find the best deliverers of the Telegraph & Argus during 2013.

It might be that he or she shows amazing dedication – come rain or shine – or has been responsible for an act of particular kindness or valour.

The winners in two categories – delivery for a newsagent or direct delivery for the T&A – will win each win bikes, courtesy of our competition sponsors, the National Federation of Retail Newsagents and Wibsey Cycle Centre.

Paul Holliman, who has been running Wibsey Cycle Centre in Fair Road for 25 years, said he used to be a paperboy so he knows just how much their efforts deserve recognition.

“It might be a long time ago since I was on the rounds, but I haven’t forgotten what it’s like being out there every day, rain or shine,” said Mr Holliman.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, December 31, and the lucky winners will be announced in January.

Last year three teenagers, including one who got caught up in an armed robbery at a newsagents, received awards for the exceptional service.

Charlotte Dowson, 15, of Keighley, Shane Swales, 16, of Horton Bank Top and Guy Waddington, 15, of Wrose, Shipley, beat competition from 300 candidates to win the awards and a £250 bicycle each to use on their rounds.

Shane had been picking up papers at Old Road newsagents when raiders came in with an axe and grabbed him before making off. Despite his ordeal, the teenager carried on with his delivery round, but did get the day off school!

Joanne Ellerton, who is the T&A regional home delivery manager, said the awards, which started in 2010, are about recognising the dedication of deliverers, from teenagers to pensioners, who make vital contributions to their communities.

“We get lots of feedback about our deliverers, with people saying they are lifelines,” she said.

“It’s not just about bringing news to their door. Many of them build up good relationships and help out when needed, whether it’s running errands, just saying hello or being vigilant, noticing anything out of the ordinary.

“We are proud of them all and the work they do for us.”

If you know of a deliverer who goes the extra mile, use the voting form in today's T&A to put them forward for a prize to really help keep them on the road.
