Rawdon and Guiseley get more grit bins

Guiseley and Rawdon will have six new grit bins this winter after councillors agreed £1,000 of extra funding.

The bins, which will be supervised by Grit Bin Champions, are being provided with money given by the three ward councillors from a well-being fund.

Councillor Pat Latty said: “While we’ve been fortunate with the mild weather so far this winter, the forecasters keep predicting a cold snap.

"These grit bins will help local people to keep their own roads and pavements safe and snow free.”

Councillor Paul Wadsworth added: “We are working with Grit Bin Champions, who live near the bins and will keep an eye on them, to ensure there is always enough grit on hand to keep local people safe this winter.

"I am delighted we have been able to provide these new bins for local people.”

Councillor Graham Latty said: “I would urge local people to use the grit in a considerate manner and to cooperate with their Grit Bin Champion – it’s important that elderly people and people with pushchairs are able to get around safely, so it needs to be used sensibly on roads and pavements that really need it, not private drives.”
