A dangerous driver who flung bags of cocaine from his car during a high-speed police chase has been jailed after breaching a sentencing curfew order seven times and doing none of his unpaid work.

Sheraz Mahmood, 26, was yesterday locked up for nine months by the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, who said to him: “What have you done about this order? Answer: nothing.”

Mahmood, 26, of Airedale College Terrace, Undercliffe, Bradford, pleaded guilty to seven breaches of his curfew order and to not lifting a finger to complete 150 hours of unpaid work for the community.

He had not attended a single appointment for activity days run by the probation service as part of the sentence.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the requirements were components a 12-month community order given to Mahmood on October 31 for dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen and possession of cocaine and cannabis.

Mahmood led police on a high-speed pursuit in the Barkerend area of Bradford on April 6. He flung plastic bags of cocaine from the car and was found in possession of cannabis.

He abandoned his vehicle in Northampton Street and fled on foot. He struggled with the police before he was apprehended.

Prosecutor Nigel Hamilton said that Mahmood smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glazed and he refused to give a specimen for analysis. He was driving with no insurance and licence.

Mr Hamilton said Mahmood had come up with a variety of excuses for not complying with the community order and it should be revoked.

Mahmood’s solicitor Ash Mahmood said his client had had “difficulties”, including family illnesses and medical problems.

“The defendant fully accepts that there has not been any progress in relation to this order,” he said.

“He asks for one final opportunity to complete the order.”

But Judge Thomas told Mahmood: “The time has come when you have run out of all possibilities accept to receive a custodial sentence.”
