X Factor hopeful Luke Friend, who grew up in Shipley, has reached the final of the hit TV show after a tense sing-off with rival band Rough Copy.

Over Saturday, viewers watched the singer-songwriter compete against Sam Bailey, Nicholas McDonald and Rough Copy for a place in next week’s final.

The contestants had to wait until last night’s show to find out if they have done enough to reach the final.

Luke’s father Steve Friend had revealed to the T&A that the teenager had been under “huge pressure.”

The 17-year-old, with trademark shaggy hair, has a loyal fanbase which includes singer Adele and footballer Rio Ferdinand who have both tweeted him. Luke, who lived in Shipley until his family moved to Devon four years ago, attended Beckfoot School in Bingley.
