Proposals to open a new rail station in the district have overcome a major hurdle after rail safety chiefs agreed that trains would be able to stop safely on the curve of the track where the station would be located.
It had been feared that the track curvature at Low Moor, Bradford, meant the station would not comply with regulations laid down by the independent Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) for safe platform-to-train stepping distances and that the necessary adjustments would render the scheme too costly.
Metro, working with Network Rail and Northern Rail, have carried out painstaking work to demonstrate that trains could stop safely on the curve.
The RSSB has now issued a Certificate of Deviation, meaning plans for the new station can proceed.
After final safety approval from RSSB, Metro now expects to submit a planning application to Bradford Council in January.
