The former wife of an ex-professional footballer has been ordered to pay £245 by a court after being caught speeding.

Helen Windass, formerly married to Bradford City legend Dean Windass, was recorded doing 57mph in the 50mph limit in her Audi A1 on June 1 on the A59 at Beamsley Hill, Skipton.

Windass, 48, admitted speeding by letter to court.

She had been eligible for a speed awareness course because she was only just over the limit, but had failed to take it up despite being sent a reminder, Skipton Magistrates’ Court was told.

In her letter to court, Windass said she worked for North Yorkshire Police as a response officer and had a clean licence for 20 years until last year when she had received three points for speeding.

Magistrates fined Windass, of St Johns Park, Menston, £140 and endorsed her licence with three penalty points.

She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim’s surcharge.
