Pupils had a Mad Hair Day at St Cuthbert’s Primary school – to raise hundreds of pounds for victims of the storms in the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan that hit the islands earlier this month left millions of people displaced and thousands feared dead.

Staff at the school, in Scotchman Road, Heaton, asked pupils to do their bit to help.

They organised a “crazy hair day”, with pupils coming into the school uniquely coiffed or wearing an outrageous wig.

The school collected £770, which will be sent to CAFOD. The charity is arranging for funds and aid to be sent to the Philippines.
