A pair of Keighley teachers are back from a “life changing” visit to an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia.

Cath Owens and Peter Riley, of Holy Family Catholic School, visited the Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School, in the capital Jakarta. During their 12-day trip they toured satellite schools in Indonesian cities.

Holy Family has had links with Darunnajah since 2006. This initiative enabled pupils from Indonesia to visit Keighley for the first time this year.

Mrs Owens, faculty leader for humanities, said: “The pupils there had a real thirst for knowledge – they really want to learn.

"They asked very intelligent questions such as what is the difference between the UK and Great Britain.

"They were curious about Muslims in our school and whether they’re allowed to wear headscarves.”
