Young people in care were rewarded for their achievements at a special ceremony on Saturday.

Children and teenagers who have made progress at school can be nominated for an award by their teacher, carer or social worker.

The ceremony was organised by Bradford Council as part of its drive to improve the attendance and attainment of children in care,.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain, was the guest of honour at the ceremony at the University of Bradford’s Norcroft Centre.

He said: “It’s a real honour to be giving out these awards to these young people who really deserve this recognition.”

Councillor Carol Thirkill, chairman of the Council’s corporate parenting panel, said: “The improvement in educational outcomes we’re seeing is testament to some really hard work and determination from the young people involved.”
