Caravan owners have been advised to install smoke alarms in their vehicles after a caravan in Gomersal was destroyed by fire today.

No-one was in the caravan, parked on Listings Lane, when it caught fire at 4.15am, but firefighters who tackled the blaze say it shows how dangerous caravan fires can be.

Fire crews from Cleckheaton and Brighouse dealt with the incident, and say they are not sure how it started.

A spokesman said: “The caravan was pretty much destroyed.

"They can go up extremely fast once they catch fire.

"Anyone who does have a caravan should always install smoke alarms.”
