Nearly 19,000 people across Yorkshire and the Humber joined the mass stop smoking challenge ‘Stoptober’, which ended this week.
Figures from Public Health England show that if people from the region were successful in quitting for the full 28-day period, £2,665,464 would have been saved and as much as 363 years of life added to the population.
More than 250,000 took part in the challenge, which ran from October 1 to 28.
Dr Andrew Furber, of the Yorkshire and Humber-wide tobacco control alliance, said participants deserved to be congratulated.
