French flavour to pub’s grub to celebrate Grand Depart
Zut alors! A Keighley pub is hopping into action to cook-up a treat ahead of the Tour de France.
And frogs’ legs are on the menu of French-themed celebratory activities planned by the Great Northern in Ingrow.
“The cyclists will come right past the pub, so we want to do everything we can to mark the occasion,” said licensee Mickey Thompson.
“We’ll probably offer pickled frogs’ legs, or put them in Yorkshire pudding for our own variation of toad in the hole!
“It will be a challenge for people to try them. I’ve had them before and they were alright. I have also sampled snails but I wasn’t so keen on those!”
He has also started “Le Song for Yorkshire”, a Facebook contest to find an appropriate ditty.
The entry gaining most likes will be recorded and the winner will have the chance to perform it.
“It’s a bit of fun, but it’s not every day the Tour de France passes your door, so why not celebrate the fact?” said Mr Thompson.
There are also plans to extend the car park outside the Halifax Road pub and neighbouring chippy, from six to 16 spaces, to cope with extra demand before the Grand Depart’s July 6 arrival.
