Concern grows for missing mum last seen at Saltaire
Concern is growing for a vulnerable young Bradford mother who has been missing from home for a week.
Seemberjeet Kaur, 35, the mum of a three-year-old child, was last seen in Roberts Park, Saltaire, last Wednesday.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.
Mrs Kaur, who had been taking medication for depression, had been due to collect her daughter from nursery school but did not turn up. Her husband, Baljeet, raised the alarm when the school contacted him to ask where his wife was.
Police search teams are focusing on the River Aire and the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, as well as woods and the park itself. Occupiers of around 200 houses in the area were also being visited so their gardens and outhouses could be checked.
Officers are particularly concerned because Seemberjeet was suffering from anxiety and depression and may wrongfully have had concerns about her health.
Mrs Kaur, of East Bowling, took a taxi from her home at about 10am last Wednesday and was dropped off in the Salts Mill area of Saltaire about half an hour later.
CCTV camera footage showed she spent around three hours in the park, which she is understood to have regularly visited as a child. The last sighting was on the canal towpath. There is no trace of her after that.
Acting Detective Superintendent Scott Wood, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the investigation, said officers were continuing to search the immediate area around the canal towpath.
Officers in boats were widening the water searches as far as Leeds. Others were searching in a half-mile radius from Roberts Park.
Det Supt Wood said: “Our searches are focusing on the area around Roberts Park and Shipley Glen. We would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw her in the park after 1pm last Wednesday, which is the last time she was seen on CCTV.
“Our focus is on the river. She has not withdrawn any money, she has not contacted anybody, and she was vulnerable before she left.”
Seemberjeet is described as Asian, about 5ft 4in tall, of slim build, with straight black shoulder-length hair which she usually wears down. She was wearing a beige coat, blue jeans and metallic brown ankle boots.
Det Supt Wood said: “We urge anyone who has seen or has any information on her whereabouts to contact Bradford CID via the non-emergency number 101.”
