Peel Park to hold new Bonfire spectacular
Bonfire Night will be celebrated with an extra bang this year through a new firework extravaganza promised in Bradford.
For the first time, a large firework display will be held in Bradford’s Peel Park which has been in the planning for about two years.
Organiser James Finnie, who runs a funfair company of the same name, said it was the first time he had arranged such an event.
“We run fairs in Bradford and around during the summer time and this is a thank you to the people of Bradford for supporting my fairs,” Mr Finnie said.
“I think it will be very good for the people of Bradford. There’s never been such a big do in Peel Park.
“I’m hoping to make it an annual event. If it’s very successful it should grow and grow.”
The Bradford Firework Extravaganza will be held in Peel Park on Friday, November 1, from 5pm, and will include a funfair and two firework displays.
Mr Finnie said: “Overall there will be over ten large attractions, a mass of children’s rides and even a family rollercoaster.”
Meanwhile, the tradition of Bingley bonfire, which began more than 40 years ago, continues on Saturday, November 2, from 6pm.
It was started by Bingley Round Table in 1972 and was originally held on land at Bailey Old Hills, before moving to the bottom meadow of Myrtle Park five years later.
Organiser Michael Heaton said: “It’s a community event and is about raising money for worse-off people, people who have got nothing or who need some help.”
A radio roadshow and bands will entertain guests, before a 30-minute firework show which starts at about 7.30pm.
“It’s quite spectacular and we’ve used the same people for it for many years,” Mr Heaton said.
Elsewhere across the district, events will be held at pubs, hotels and community group bases, with many including traditions such as pie and peas, rides and tombolas.
West Yorkshire Fire Service is also holding a Fireworks Extravaganza at its headquarters in Bradford Road, Birkenshaw, on Friday, November 8, featuring children’s rides and live music. Gates open at 6pm and the fireworks display takes place at 8pm.
