Skipton MP Julian Smith concerned at number of planning decisions being overturned

South Craven MP Julian Smith has voiced concerns in the Commons about the number of district council planning decisions being overturned.
Applications refused by a local authority can go to appeal to the Bristol-based Planning Inspectorate.
Speaking during Department for Communities and Local Government Questions, Mr Smith said: “My constituents continue to be frustrated about the overturning of planning decisions in Bristol, when those have been taken locally in Craven.”
And he asked what advice planning minister Nick Boles would give to people.
In response, Mr Boles said: “The best defence, and the way to guarantee the local authority is in the driving seat, is for that authority to get on and complete its local plan.
“That is sometimes a difficult process, but it is the best thing to do.”
Mr Smith said the minister’s response was clear, and he urged Craven Council to complete its plan as quickly as possible.
