Cross Hills dancers have the 'wow' factor
6:13pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in News
Youngsters from the May School of Dance in Cross Hills will be stepping into the spotlight.
They are staging a show called WOW at Bingley Arts Centre from Wednesday, November 6, to Saturday, November 9.
The first half is loosely based on The Wizard of Oz and the second half is a mixture of song and dance from musicals, film and the latest chart hits.
The show involves more than 120 students, 40 routines and more than 300 costumes.
“The rehearsals are going very well and the show is really coming together,” said school principal Christine Goode.
“We have got lots of extra help, not just with the rehearsals but with scenery building and costume making.
“This is a massive project, with the youngest performers being three years old to the oldest in their 30s.”
The dancers recently performed at Skipton’s Big Night Out to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which has special significance for student Ella Varley. She appeared on TV’s Helicopter Heroes when she was involved in a crash in Cowling two years ago. But, two weeks later, she returned to class and will appear in this year’s show along with her sister, Jodie.
The principals are: Dorothy – Katie Wortley; Tin Man – Bethany Cant; Scarecrow – Ben Cant; Lion – Emily Simons; Uncle Henry – Jay Airey; Aunty Em – Frances Wade; Wicked Witch – Catherine Gregory; Gate Keeper – Finlay Goode; Head Munchkin – Darcie Riley; The Wizard – Mia Mann.
The show starts at 7.15pm and tickets are available on the door or call 01535 634433.
