Children at a Bradford primary school were encouraged to “believe and succeed” during a visit by Paralympic swimmer Elizabeth Wright today.

The Australian athlete, who was born with congenital limb deficiency, spoke to key stage one and two pupils at St John’s CE Primary School in Bierley about her bronze medal success in the 1996 Atlanta Games and winning bronze and silver in Sydney in 2000.

Deputy head teacher Andrew Knight said: “She is an inspirational role model.

“At our school our motto is ‘believe and succeed’ and she was able to put it into the context that although she’s had difficulties she has shown tenacity and determination to overcome them.

“The children really enjoyed meeting her and asking her questions.

“She was also impressed that our head boy and girl showed her around the school.”
