Entertainer Paul Harper hosts a tribute to the stars in Bradford
8:00am Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
An entertainer has called on some of the country’s top tribute acts to help raise money for two charities close to his heart.
Paul Harper, 50, will host a grand concert at the Hilton Hotel in Bradford on Wednesday in the guise of comic Harry Hill, with proceeds being split between Bradford Cancer Support and Help for Heroes.
He will be introducing tributes to Adele, Amy Winehouse, Shirley Bassey, Neil Diamond, Dean Martin, Michael Buble and Jane McDonald.
“It will be a brilliant night’s entertainment. These are the top tribute acts in the country,” Mr Harper said.
“If you listen to them, the likeness is out of this world and it’s great that they are all giving their time for free to such a good cause.”
Mr Harper is a full-time entertainer and singer who was worked on the UK club scene for 20 years, also working as a Harry Hill lookalike since 2009. He is hoping to raise up to £7,000 on the night to be shared between the two charities.
“I have worked with Cancer Support for the last three or four years as my wife Patricia suffers from leukemia,” he said.
“Thankfully she is in remission now, but they do brilliant work and I’m proud to do my bit to help them.”
He has a son, Sam, who flies Apache helicopters in the Army.
“Help for Heroes does some superb work and I decided that I’d try to help them as much as I could,” he said.
Mr Harper said he was “chuffed to bits” that his local branch of Barclays in Wyke have chosen to support the event, with four members of staff pledging to match-fund £750 each towards the final total raised.
Tickets for the show, which starts at 8pm, cost £8 and can be bought from Bradford & Airedale Cancer Support on (01274) 202226, at Barclays in Wyke, or from Mr Harper on 07951 967597.
