Walkers are welcomed to launch of scheme in Baildon
10:10am Friday 18th October 2013 in News
Walkers of all abilities are urged to stroll along to a launch event tomorrow to celebrate Baildon gaining ‘Walkers are Welcome’ status – and possibly win a free holiday.
The morning event at Baildon Methodist Church starts at 9.30am and will include a ‘market place’ of information stalls for environmental, outdoor, and walking organisations.
Local historians Mike Lawson and Roy Lorrain-Smith will also be showing slides of historical features which can be seen on local walks. Colin Speakman, Ramblers campaigner and author, will officially start the ceremony with a presentation at 11.30am.
The afternoon will see a number of guided walks including family walks, and historical trails around the village, as well as longer walks across the moors. No advance booking is needed for these walks – turn up 10 minutes before the departure time.
Those attending can take part in a competition to win a free three-night break for two, donated by walking holiday company, HF Holidays.
Keen walker Chris Flecknoe, chairman of Baildon Town Council, said: “The Walkers are Welcome scheme has the potential to bring in additional visitors to Baildon to increase customers for our local shops and cafes and introduce them to the many attractions of Baildon.”
