Claret and amber farewell for Baildon caretaker Alwyne
8:00am Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
Long-serving school caretaker Alwyne Clapham is retiring.
Staff joined in the fun to say farewell to Mr Clapham who began as a caretaker at Clayton School, in 1975.
“Then I went on and did six years at St Barnabas, Heaton, 17 years at Belmont School, Baildon and then 13 years here at Glenaire – and I’ve loved every minute,” said Mr Clapham, who has his 65th birthday on Saturday.
The Bradford City day was also a fundraiser for children’s cancer charity Candlelighters, which Mr Clapham and his wife Marilyn support.
Glenaire head teacher Alan Steele said: “He’s almost irreplaceable – he does everything in the job description and so much more.”
Now Mr Clapham is preparing to move out of his bungalow on the school site but plans to help out with volunteering and setting up a gardening club for pupils.
